Old Montana Prison: Deer Lodge, MT
The old kitchen area from the old Montana Prison. Looks more like a shower area, but I guess it was the kitchen will old brick and stainless steel ovens.
We took a drive up to the Old Montana Prison in Deer Lodge so Aimee could get some photos for her graphic novel. There were only a few other people walking around, so we had the place to ourselves for the most part. Above is the old mess hall. The sign was made by the Deputy Warden that was killed during the 1959 riot. Before the prisoners had salt, pepper, ketchup, mustard, A1 Sauce and a variety of other condiments all in glass containers. After the riot, the prisoners had ketchup, mustard and salt, as pepper was now considered a weapon. Along the side is a tunnel with little openings for the armed guards to shoot in tear gas, or whatever was needed. The guards in the mess hall didn't have weapons for fear of prisoners overpowering them. The tunnel is the only place during the riot the prisoners didn't breach.
And the T.V. room. Must be a 12 incher, black and white. Sweet.
